Queensland wind farm project to create 200 construction jobs

wind farmAusBNAusBN - A recently approved AUS$200 million wind farm project in North Queensland is set to bring 200 construction related jobs to the Australian state.

The 100MW Lakeland Wind Farm is being developed by a company called Windlab and will generate enough power to supply more than 50,000 homes upon completion.

Minister for state development, manufacturing, infrastructure and planning Cameron Dick said that the approval of the wind farm is likely to bring significant investment to the region.

“The proposed development by Windlab Ltd involves 30 wind turbines and ancillary infrastructure and will take almost a year to construct,” he said.

Also commenting on the news, Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said Windlab’s private sector investment was a concrete endorsement of Queensland’s renewable energy policy. The state is targeting 50% renewable energy generation by 2030.

Finally, state member for Cook Cynthia Lui said: “The approval of this project is a real coup for the Cape York Peninsula because we know this project means jobs and investment in our community, which will be a boost for our local economy and a win for jobseekers in the Lakeland area and surrounds.”
