Sydney towers shortlisted in world’s best buildings competition

sydney buildingsAusBNAusBN - A number of Australian tower blocks have been shortlisted as finalists across three categories in a prestigious annual competition run by Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

In the ‘Best Tall Building: Asia & Australasia’ category, three tower blocks in Barangaroo, Sydney made it to the last nine of proceedings. The three International Towers, by developer Lendlease, will compete against other office and hotel buildings from Singapore, China and South Korea.

A spokesperson for Lendlease said: “It’s terrific to achieve global recognition for transforming a derelict container terminal into a place that’s become not only a commercial hub but one that’s a growing part of Sydney’s fabric.”

Furthermore, Sydney’s EY Centre was nominated for the ‘Best Construction Award’ alongside four other global finalists found in New York City, Salt Lake City and Shenzhen.

Finally, George Street apartment building Lumiere will compete in the special ‘Ten-Year Award’, in a further reflection of Sydney’s flourishing construction and property sectors.

The winners of each category will be announced in May at CTBUH’s first Tall + Urban Innovation Conference, celebrating the best in innovative tall buildings, urban spaces, building technologies, and construction practices worldwide.

One building will be crowned the overall worldwide winner.
